What is Display Retargeting and can it benefit my business?

You may have recently visited an online store and noticed that particular product you were looking at started to follow you around to other websites in the form of an online banner ad. This is called display retargeting and is now widely used by marketers.

For most products and services, customers are less than 5% likely to purchase on the first time they visit your website. For this reason retargeting has become really important in ensuring you get prospect clients to come back while they are still in the purchase cycle. Retargeting is not only used by online stores but a wide range of industries. The duration of how long the ad will follow a prospect customer can vary from 1 to 180 days. For many online stores they will only allow the ads to be displayed for around 2 weeks, whereas for car sales it can extend to 2 months.  

How display retargeting works

Retargeting works by placing a cookie in a visitor’s website browser so when they browse any other websites your advert will follow them. Like all online advertising it is not only trackable but can also be geo targeted to a specific geographical region to ensure your adverts are shown to those within your target region. The cost of retargeting really depends on the number of people visiting your website and how long you would like to follow them for (usually around $50 to $200 a month).
